I finished my Shedir a couple of days ago. I really liked this pattern and this yarn (Calmer). Niels and Stefan wanted to model it too.
After 10 years of being involved with a Dutchman I finally made poffertjes from a recipe instead of a mix! I had been intimidated by using yeast, for some silly reason, but it was totally worth it. The texture was amazing and they were quite popular with everyone. Of course, the fact that you melt butter over them and sprinkle them with powdered sugar makes them very popular in and of itself.
In the past week I've made the first two soups from a recent episode of Good Food. I'm glad I made the potato and green garlic one first because while it was good, it can not compare to the chilled pea bisque.
I don't think I had the full 2 cups of peas because Stefan was "helping" me shell the peas. At first he was really helping but then it ended with him shoveling the shelled peas into his mouth and saying, "My helping!" It was cute, though, to make up for the lack of peas in the finished product. The only other changes I made were not to use the mint, because I didn't have it, and I used jasmine rice, which isn't a change, since they don't specify what type of rice to use. It was the only white rice I had and I didn't think brown rice would work very well. Anyway, this soup is amazing. I think it's the texture that really does it. Because you strain the pureed pea/rice mixture it comes out the most amazing silky texture. I will definitely be making it again!
There are thousands of dollars worth of toys in this house, I think, and yet, what is Stefan playing with? The pile of yarn scraps left from me weaving in the ends of Oblique. (See, I mentioned Oblique, that's what makes this a knitting post.) First they were snakes, "dis big nake, dis baby nake," and then they were riding in a truck.
I guess I posted too soon about my Stitches haul! I went back today for a while and remembered that I wanted to get some gift yarn, enough dk weight organic cotton for a kid sweater for a friend. It's the same yarn that I bought myself one of yesterday. I love this color but have a feeling I couldn't pull it off, but my friend's daughter can.

I had a Knitty sort of day. I knitted up a quick Calorimetry (Ravelry project details) for myself and finished up a cute little Kate cat (Ravelry project details) for a classmate of Niels' The only trouble with finishing toys is that the kids really like them. That is good, if I am making whatever it is for them, not so good if I want to give it away. Stefan took it from my hand and gave it a HUGE hug, laying on top of the cat on the ottoman of my mother's glider. He did give it back but I see another one of these in my future.
My second Rogue Sleeve is done. I have set the completely pointless deadline of finishing this by Stitches West, February 22. We'll see how that goes.
I also couldn't resist posting these pictures of Stefan being drawn to Margit's spinning wheel like a moth to a flame. He is going to be my fibery child, I can tell. (He's trying to put his foot on the treadle and "help" her in the second one.)
I made Stefan a Little Turtle Knits Giving Pixie hat. (It was supposed to be for Niels but I made it too small. It is actually a touch small on Stefan.)
Knitting it was easier than getting a photograph.
Too bad her head is the wrong shape.
It's official, the mitered baby blanket that never was has been reborn as the Mason-Dixon Knitting Moderne Log Cabin Baby Blanket. I didn't do the outer blocks because it was already 25" by 34" and those blocks would have added a lot more than that. Plus, if I wanted to do it, I would have needed to buy more of the yellow and light blue yarn. Somehow, I ended up with three balls of yarn left, two dark blue, one white. Go figure.
